Usage statistics (optional)
PilotCharts can send anonymous usage counters to help us understand which features are used and where to focus our work. This is off until you choose. The first time you open the app it asks once whether you want to share them; until you answer, nothing is recorded or sent. You can change your mind at any time in Settings.
What is sent. Only aggregate counters: an event name (for example “layer switched on” or “country downloaded”), a few simple attributes (a layer name, the map theme, the country code of a downloaded country, whether your plan is free or premium, on/off), and the day. This includes plain counts of how often you use the Library and notes: for example that a file was added to the Library (and whether it is a PDF or an image), opened or deleted, or that a note was created, saved or deleted. Never the names, content, identifiers or sizes of your files and notes. Counters are batched and sent to the PilotCharts backend only. They are never sent to third parties, and the app contains no third-party analytics or advertising software.
What is never sent. No install identifier, user identifier or advertising identifier. We do not store your IP address with these counters. No locations or GPS positions, no search text, no route names, no file names or file contents, no airport notes.
Sessions, not installs. Because there is no identifier, we can count how many times the app was opened, but not how many different people or devices use it.
Turning it off. When you turn usage statistics off, the app stops sending immediately and deletes any counters that were still waiting to be sent.
Counted by our servers
Independently of the setting above, the PilotCharts backend keeps plain daily totals, with no user data attached, of: account registrations, logins and account deletions; weather requests; NOTAM requests; elevation data downloads per country; and, for accounts that use sync, how many Library or airport files and Notepad notes were synced and how many file uploads completed. These counts never include file names, contents, identifiers or sizes. These are simple counts of requests that reach our servers, such as “42 weather requests today”. They cannot be traced back to you.
Account and data deletion
You can permanently delete your PilotCharts account and all associated personal data (synced flight routes, waypoints, notes, library files, and aircraft profiles) at any time. Deletion can be initiated directly within the mobile app or requested via email. For step-by-step instructions and data retention details, see the Delete Account & Data page.
